Stay with Winemakers in Burgundy
Kwame and Camilla welcome you to La Rose Pourpre. Discover the authenticity of Domaine d'Aubigny.
You don't visit Burgundy — you live it, with us.
When people think of a stay in Burgundy, they imagine hotels, guided tours, commercial wine caves. At La Rose Pourpre, it's different. You sleep at the home of winemakers. You have breakfast prepared by Camilla. You taste the wines of Domaine d'Aubigny around a table. You're not a customer — you're a friend we're welcoming.
I'm Kwame. I'm a winemaker, co-owner of Domaine d'Aubigny since 2021. Camilla is my wife, co-owner of La Rose Pourpre. We welcome you in Beaune, and if you wish, we take you to discover our vineyard 30 minutes away.
Camilla — Authentic Welcome
Camilla is what makes you feel at home. She prepares breakfast every morning — not an industrial buffet, but something real. Fresh bread from the baker, local jams, ham, cheese. And of course, a glass of Domaine wine if you wish.
She knows Beaune inside and out. If you have a craving, a question, a detail to arrange, she'll make it happen. A friend once asked if Camilla could reserve a table near the house — there were small restaurants he didn't want to miss. No problem. That's what it means to stay with someone rather than in a hotel.
Camilla is also co-owner of La Rose Pourpre. She chooses every detail, from the welcome to the linens, to make sure you're comfortable. And she loves to talk about it — if you want to know the best bakeries, friendly wine shops, where to eat without falling into a tourist trap, she'll tell you.
Kwame — Winemaker, Owner, and a Talker
I should warn you: I'm a talker. If you ask me how long a visit to Domaine d'Aubigny takes, there's no real answer. It depends on what interests you. Want to walk through the vineyards? Sure. Want to learn about the Cistercian history of the Domain since 1132? Great. Do you prefer to talk about the challenges of 2026 — an exceptionally hot year — or the wines we produce?
We can spend two hours or a whole day. I don't have a schedule. What matters to me is helping you understand why I do this work, why this land fascinates me.
Domaine d'Aubigny is 20 hectares in Côte Chalonnaise, in Aluze, 30 minutes from Beaune. We produce Mercurey Premier Cru, Rully white, Burgundy red and white. We farm organically. It's hard work. But it's our Domain, and it's a privilege.
What Awaits You at La Rose Pourpre
Breakfast — Camilla prepares it every morning. Bread, jams, cheese, ham. And a glass of Domain wine if you'd like.
Informal tastings — Every evening, all week long. You can taste the Domain wines, ask questions, discover the nuances between Mercurey and Rully. It's flexible — you tell me what appeals to you (2-3 wines, or 5?), and we talk about them. Price: €20 to €50 per person.
Beaune — A guesthouse in Beaune is the perfect base. The ramparts, wine caves, market, restaurants are a short walk away. Camilla advises you.
Your time — You're free. No "mandatory activities". You can stay at home, read, wander. Or you want to explore. It's up to you.
Saturday: Market, Domain, Cellar Tasting, Picnic
This is the real experience. It must be reserved in advance, and it's only available on Saturday — market day in Beaune. Here's how it works.
Morning: Beaune Market
You go to the Beaune market — Saturday morning is the event. You shop together: cheese, ham, fresh bread, fruit. Local produce, local producers. Camilla knows the people, she introduces you. It's an authentic moment of life in Beaune.
Drive to Aluze: 30 Minutes
You have two options: either you follow us in your car (your market goods on board), or we can arrange a minibus for you. During the drive, we talk about the landscape, the hillsides, the different appellations we cross. Burgundy is already revealing itself.
The Domain: Cellar Tasting
We arrive at the Domain. You discover the Cistercian building, the vineyards, the house. Then we go into the cellar. You taste 5 to 10 wines from the Domain — at your pace, your interest. Mercurey Premier Cru, Rully white, Burgundy red and white, the monopoles... You taste under the same conditions as professionals.
I'm there. I tell you about each wine, why I made it this way, the challenges of the year (2026 was exceptionally hot — harvest began August 17, which is very early). You ask questions. It's a real conversation, not a sales pitch.
The Countryside Picnic
We take out the products we bought at the market this morning. Cheese, ham, bread. And a Domain wine, of course. We sit outside — garden, vineyards around us — and eat. It's simple, it's beautiful, it's memorable.
Complete package price: €50 to €100 per person (depending on what you choose to taste, number of people). To be reserved in advance with Camilla.
2026: A Hot Year, an Early Harvest
This year has been exceptional. Temperatures were very high all summer. Harvest began on August 17 — extremely early for Burgundy. This is a year that will be remembered.
If you come this year, you can talk directly with me about it. The challenges, the opportunities, what it means for the wines. It's alive, it's current.
Why It's Different
Not a hotel. A hotel is about service. Here, it's about hospitality. Camilla isn't a "hostess", she's your host. The difference is subtle but real.
Not a guided tour. A guided tour is "here are the facts". Here, I tell you why I love this work. Why I chose Domaine d'Aubigny. Why this year was so particular. It's more personal.
Not a generic guesthouse. A guesthouse is sometimes just a place to sleep. La Rose Pourpre and Domaine d'Aubigny are a context. It's a story that goes back to 1132, to Cistercian monks who planted the first vines. It's continuity.
