A breakfast is when you really see who people are.

At La Rose Pourpre, breakfast is not a buffet. It's a conversation. I come ask you what you like, how you prefer it, if there's anything you absolutely refuse. And then I do my best to make that moment real.

What makes that possible is sourcing. No industrial products, no stock sitting around. Bread that came fresh from Marie this morning. Cheese we know. Good butter. Jams we actually love. Simple, but difficult to do well.

Local sourcing — The real limits

First thing: let's be honest. Coffee doesn't grow in Burgundy. Neither does tea. If you're looking for 100% local coffee, you're going to be disappointed, and I'd rather you know now than discover it at the breakfast table.

But everything else? The bread, the cheese, the butter, the jams? Yes. Really local. Less than 100 metres for the bread, a few kilometres for the rest. That's what matters.

It's also what makes things sometimes... unpredictable. Artisans take holidays. Sometimes there's a small supply issue. And that's normal. That's life.

The bread: Marie and Boulangerie MB

Marie has a bakery less than 100 metres from here. It's a remarkable place — not traditional in style, but completely traditional in spirit.

What you'll see when you walk in: everything is prepared in front of you. The ovens. The workers. Total transparency. Want to know where the flour comes from? Marie will tell you. She has dozens of references — different flours, different mills, different regions. She tests, she experiments.

If you have a gluten allergy, no problem. Marie makes gluten-free bread. You just need to tell us the day before. That's all.

Bread is so much better when it's fresh that we never stock it at home. Every morning, fresh. Period.

Continuity Assured: Boulangerie-Pâtisserie "Du Goût et des Idées"

50 metres further down. It's a traditional bakery — you won't find a website (that's intentional, I think!). But the pastries are exceptional. And they make a bread they call "pain bistro" that is really remarkable.

If Marie has an issue — holidays, maintenance — we go to "Du Goût et des Idées". You might not even notice the difference. But you'll appreciate the continuity.

Cheese, butter, jams

Cheese: we get them from our local suppliers, from producers we know. There's choice: goat cheese, cow cheese, blues, soft cheeses. Tell me what you like.

Butter: it's good butter. Nothing more to say.

Jams: some homemade, some from local artisans. Really it's what each person likes. Strawberry, raspberry, apricot, blackberry... Your choice.

And if you feel like hot chocolate in the morning? Ask me. We can arrange it.

Where and when?

The ground floor of the house isn't quite ready for communal breakfasts yet — but that's an advantage for you.

Your breakfast waits at your bedroom door, at whatever time you want. No stress. No early rising if you don't want to.

In spring, summer and early autumn? You can have it in the courtyard. It's beautiful.

In winter, or if you prefer? A quiet walkway from the house. Your choice.

Tell me what you like

It's really simple: you tell me what you like, what you refuse, what you want to taste. I do my best to make that real.

Allergies? Special diets? You hate something? No problem. I prepare something you love.

That's hospitality. Not an imposed menu. A conversation.

« Breakfast is when I really see you. Unguarded. No mask. You're just as you are — messy hair, wanting coffee, maybe still dreaming. That's when I know if I'm doing my job well.

Marie brings her fresh bread. The cheese arrives from the producer at 8am. It's not a show. It's real life we share at a table for three or four. And at the end, you tell me what you loved — or what you'd never tried before. It's an exchange.

It makes me happy. »
